Top-Tasting Dairy-Free Yogurts With the Best Nutrition

Finding a healthy dairy-free yogurt that actually tastes good can be a challenge. I visited two stores and spent about $50 trying a range of nondairy yogurts so you don’t have to.

Many families either need to avoid dairy or choose to. The dairy-free yogurt market is varied: some products resemble traditional yogurt nutritionally, while others fall short. I screened options by nutrition criteria and selected 12 to purchase and taste-test.

Read on for my dietitian-backed recommendations for healthy dairy-free yogurt. I also recorded a full YouTube review if you want to watch my tasting notes and reactions.

Less nutritious dairy-free yogurt options

I excluded several widely available dairy-free yogurts because they didn’t meet my nutrition standards. I generally look for at least 4–5 g of protein for satiety and growth and prefer less than 12 g of added sugar when possible. These items fell short of those standards and are better considered treats rather than replacements for traditional yogurt:

  • So Delicious DF Coconut Milk Blueberry — <1 g protein / 17 g sugar / 16 g added sugar
  • So Delicious DF Coconut Milk Vanilla — <1 g protein / 17 g sugar / 17 g added sugar
  • Almond Breeze Strawberry — 2 g protein / 16 g sugar / 15 g added sugar
  • Silk Almondmilk Strawberry — 5 g protein / 13 g sugar / 12 g added sugar
  • Silk Almondmilk Vanilla — 7 g protein / 18 g sugar / 12 g added sugar
  • Oui DF Coconut Yogurt Vanilla — 1 g protein / 12 g sugar / 11 g added sugar
  • GT’s Living Foods Cocoyo Living Coconut Pure — 3 g protein / 2 g sugar / 0 g added sugar
  • Culina Dairy Free Coconut, Blueberry Lavender — 2 g protein / 9 g sugar / 8 g added sugar
  • Kite Hill Plant Based Strawberry Yogurt — 3 g protein / 13 g sugar / 12 g added sugar
  • Cocojune Mixed Berry Coconut Yogurt — 1 g protein / 7 g sugar / 4 g added sugar
  • Forager Vanilla Bean Cashewmilk Yogurt — 3 g protein / 9 g sugar / 8 g added sugar

If your favorite appears on this list, don’t worry — enjoy it occasionally, but treat it more like a dessert than a daily yogurt substitute.

Best tasting & healthy dairy-free yogurt

I ranked the yogurts roughly from best to worst tasting based on texture, flavor, and overall enjoyment. I couldn’t test every flavor of each brand due to store availability. If you’ve tried a flavor I didn’t sample, feel free to share your thoughts.

Siggi’s Coconut Blend Raspberry: 7/10

siggis coconut blend yogurt non dairy yogurt review

Nutrition: 180 calories / 7 g fat / 10 g protein / 8 g sugar / 7 g added sugar

Ingredients: Cultured coconut milk (water, coconut cream), pea protein, cane sugar, raspberries, coconut oil, macadamia nut butter, food starch (tapioca, corn), natural flavor, fruit pectin, live active cultures (S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. plantarum, L. acidophilus, B. lactis).

Allergens: Tree nuts (coconut, macadamia)

Smell: Mild

Taste: Slightly textured with small fruit bits and a mild macadamia note that adds depth. Not overly coconut-forward and less drying in the mouth than many coconut-based brands.

Siggi’s Coconut Blend Vanilla and Cinnamon: 7/10

Nutrition: 190 calories / 7 g fat / 10 g protein / 9 g sugar / 8 g added sugar

Ingredients: Cultured coconut milk, pea protein, cane sugar, coconut oil, macadamia nut butter, starches, Madagascar bourbon vanilla (extract, bean specks), fruit pectin, cinnamon, live active cultures.

Allergens: Tree nuts (coconut, macadamia)

Smell: Strong cinnamon aroma

Taste: A satisfying vanilla-cinnamon profile that lands close to what you’d expect from a spiced yogurt. Not identical to dairy yogurt, but enjoyable and full-flavored.

Nancy’s Oatmilk Vanilla: 7/10

Nutrition: 100 calories / 1.5 g fat / 5 g protein / 8 g sugar / 6 g added sugar

Ingredients: Oatmilk (water, whole oat flour), cane sugar, chickpea protein, tapioca starch, small amounts of coconut oil, sunflower oil, inulin, natural flavors, calcium citrate, pectin, agar, vanilla, live non-dairy yogurt and probiotic cultures.

Smell: Vanilla

Taste: Surprisingly sweet for its added-sugar level, with a pronounced vanilla flavor. Texture can look a bit lumpy when stirred but feels smooth in the mouth. A pleasant option with probiotic cultures.

Silk Greek Blueberry with Coconutmilk: 6.5/10

silk nondairy greek style coconutmilk yogurt review

Nutrition: 190 calories / 11 g fat / 10 g protein / 9 g sugar / 9 g added sugar

Ingredients: Coconut milk, pea protein, cane sugar, blueberries, blueberry puree concentrate, natural flavor, pectin, starches, color from fruit/vegetable juice, calcium phosphate, citric acid, live cultures, vitamin D2.

Allergens: Contains coconut

Smell: Blueberry

Taste: Very thick and sweet, with a concentrated blueberry flavor that can come across as slightly artificial to sensitive palates. Texture is dense, almost frosting-like, and it can leave a mild dry sensation in the mouth.

Silk Greek Vanilla with Coconutmilk: 6/10

Nutrition: 200 calories / 11 g fat / 10 g protein / 9 g sugar / 9 g added sugar

Ingredients: Coconut milk, pea protein, cane sugar, natural flavors, pectin, calcium phosphate, cinnamon, salt, live cultures, vitamin D2.

Allergens: Contains coconut

Smell: Similar to traditional vanilla yogurt

Taste: Smooth, thick, and vanilla-forward with a noticeable coconut undertone. Slight pasty mouthfeel and a modest aftertaste, but overall reasonably pleasant.

Icelandic Provisions Oatmilk Skyr Plain: 4/10

Nutrition: Approximately 6 g fat / 16 g protein / 3 g added sugar / 2 g fiber / 13 g carbohydrates

Ingredients: Oatmilk (water, whole grain oat flour), pea protein, coconut oil, cane sugar, natural flavors, live and active cultures.

Smell: Minimal

Taste: Oaty flavor with an aftertaste that I didn’t love. It could work well as a plain yogurt substitute in recipes, but I wouldn’t choose it for eating on its own.

Kite Hill Greek-style Plain Unsweetened Almond Milk: 1/10

Nutrition: 160 calories / 6 g fat / 17 g protein / 0 g sugar / 0 g added sugar

Ingredients: Almond milk (water, almonds), soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, rowanberry extract (preservative), natural flavors, live active cultures.

Smell: Almonds

Taste: Very unpleasant—thick with a pronounced off-note I described as “wood-flavored glue.” Despite its strong protein content, the flavor and texture make it hard to recommend.

Another dairy-free approach

Many dairy-free yogurts are low in protein compared with dairy versions, but you can fortify a plain nondairy yogurt to improve its nutrition. For example, take a plain dairy-free base such as Culina plain & simple (about 200 calories and 2 g protein per serving) and stir in 1 tablespoon cashew butter (≈2.8 g protein) plus 2 teaspoons hemp seeds (≈2.1 g protein). That brings the total protein close to 7 g, adds healthy fats, and increases calories for growing children.

Adding mix-ins like hemp seeds, chia seeds, ground flax, or nut butters can improve protein and healthy fat content while keeping added sugar low and enhancing flavor and texture.
